“Those who are the strongest… protect those who aren’t.”

After the events of Days of Future past, the X-men must reunite again their forces in order to defeat Apocalypse, the first mutant on Earth who has awaken after a long rest…

  • Why should you watch this movie?

If you have watched “X-Men First Class” and “Days of Future Past” you need to watch this one in order to see how this trilogy story arch ends (or not). The previous movie got us attached because the old X-Men met the new ones, and in this one we are drawn to it to see what happened after the events of the previous one and to see the old ones as the new ones (yes, a bit confusing).

The plot is interesting, although not that original, most powerful mutant ever (who happens to be the first one) wants to rule the world. Where did you hear that? Nonetheless, what is catchy is how the story evolves and how it is told. Again, this is what we are used to, mutants fighting against mutants, and some humans there in the middle, just to reach to the audience.

We are presented the younger versions of the mutants that we met in the first movies and then the ones that we’ve been meeting along this new trilogy. It is really refreshing to see young actors perform the same characters as the time was always the same. Not a single complaint there. Maybe the only thing is that Apocalypse should be scarier, maybe?

If you are looking for some time to enjoy yourself, go for this movie. X-Men is always quality, although sometimes it is not, but they need how to make fun of themselves because of that. Not a single complaint regarding the visual effects, because that is what we are looking for when we choose to watch this movie: visual effects everywhere, the more the merrier, plus some kick-ass action, which takes its time to appear in the movie, but when it does it is really welcoming! Remember, after watching this film you will leave the theater wanting to move objects with your mind…

Best scene of the movie: “Sweet dreams” meets Quicksilver. As in the previous movie, he has a scene where he takes our breaths away and makes us laugh while doing the best he does: running!

  • Did you know?

– Bryan Singer has confirmed the film will take place in 1983 and will feature other familiar characters in their youth.

– For the role of Charles Xavier, James McAvoy shaved his head. It was something he had wanted to do in the previous X-Men films.

– The film was to be called “Age of Apocalypse”, after the comic of the same name. But this was changed to simply “Apocalypse” for a more ominous title, as well as to avoid comparison with Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014).

– Apocalypse is to make his live-action debut in 2016, the 30th anniversary of his debut in the X-Men comics (May 1986).

– As well as making his usual cameo appearance, Stan Lee appears with his wife for his cameo in this film.

– To prepare for her role as Jean Grey, Sophie Turner studied Famke Janssen’s performance as Grey in the previous X-Men films.
