“Corporate felt genetic modification would up the ‘wow’ factor.”

  • What is this movie about?jurassic_world

22 years have passed by since the events of Jurassic Park. Now the park is finally open and full operative. After years of visitors and a huge success, a new attraction is needed in order to gain more visitors. The only trouble is that this “new attraction” backfired in a horrifying way…

  • Why should you watch it?

Because it’s a Jurassic Park sequel!!! This movie keeps the spirit of the first Jurassic Park movie (yeah, forget about the other two money-making ones). This one feels like the first one but bigger! A bigger park! A bigger dinosaur! A bigger scream!! Yes, everything is bigger but it is bigger in the coolest of ways.

We find more dinosaurs than in the original one (which is always a plus if it is done in a good way like in here). With nowadays CGI the dinosaurs feel real and you cannot stop yourself but wonder, would I visit that park if it existed? The answer is probably yes!

Besides all the dinosaurs the storyline resembles that of the first movie, kids included, which adds more nostalgia into the cake. Both main actors are fabulous and you can feel the chemistry between them, which gives the funny touch into the movie (something that we are grateful for, as always).

It is a good movie to watch in the cinema and feel the growl, the screams, the tension of it all. Really a good homage to the original one. Those who saw the first one will feel again and those who didn’t won’t help themselves and watch the first one too.

Watching the movie is even more grateful if the kids in the cinema start clapping every once in a while (whether if is to the people or the dinosaurs) and you feel like clapping too and a lot younger yourself. I cannot help myself but shout: Go! Go! T-Rex!

  • Did you know?

– The film’s original title was “Jurassic Park: Extinction”.

– According to director Colin Trevorrow, the film is a direct sequel to the original film, with the sequels being “placed to the side”.

– According to the website designed to look like its the real website of the park, Jurassic World has been open since 2005.

– This is the first film in the series not to feature any of Sam Neill, Laura Dern or Jeff Goldblum. This was a creative decision by Colin Trevorrow: “I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go.”

– There is a statue of the character John Hammond, the founder of the InGen genetic company and Jurassic Park. Colin Trevorrow explained this is to specifically honor Sir Richard Attenborough who played the role in Jurassic Park (1993) & The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Attenborough had spoken in the past of possibly making another appearance in the franchise but his failing health made it highly uncertain. Unfortunately, Attenborough passed away August 24th, 2014.

– Jurassic Park (1993) is one of Chris Pratt’s favorite films. The first time he saw it was on its original opening day at the cinema.

– The gyrosphere was Steven Spielberg’s idea. According to Colin Trevorrow, then Spielberg “wanted to create a way for people to get up close and personal with the animals, to make it a self-driving, free-roaming experience. It loads on a track, but once you’re out there, you actually get to navigate around the valley”.

– According to Colin Trevorrow, there have been discussions of possible sequels to follow.

– The car that was repaired by Zach and Gray is numbered “29”, which is exactly the same number as the tourist car that John Hammond rode in the beginning of Jurassic Park (1993).

– The cameo by Jimmy Fallon is an homage to the cameo he makes in the Universal Studios tram tours. He discusses similar safety instructions and also uses the same type of humor in both.

– The product placement in the film was not at the behest of the studio, but was rather the idea of the writers and director Colin Trevorrow as a way to satirize the corporatization of popular entertainment.

– Will be released 22 years after the original.

– Three characters from the original film appear. Dr. Henry Wu, the T-Rex and Mr. DNA. Four if you count the statue of Hammond.

– This is the second movie in the series to take place in the island of Isla Nublar, after Jurassic Park (1993). Both The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001) take place in Isla Sorna/Site B.
